One of the common arguments you hear from people in America who are not fans of the idea of electric vehicles is that they are mostly charged from electricity produced from coal power plants. Heavy Coal Using States Accounted for Only 10% of EV Sales in 2020. And so “EVs are bad.” of EV sales in 2020.

ARPA-E is seeking new ways to make liquid transportation fuels—without using petroleum or biomass—by using microorganisms to harness chemical or electrical energy to convert carbon dioxide into liquid fuels. Coal-fired power plants currently generate approximately 50% of the electricity in the United States.

With two Electric cars, at the time a Nissan Lean and Mitsubishi Outlander, we use a considerable amount of electricity but not much petrol, so already we were a reasonable way down the less CO2 road. The solar panels attach to the roof and convert solar light into electrical energy. Tons of CO2. . Panels: JA Solar black.

Reply ↓ ↑ report 6 CaramelZappa 3:20AM (4/23/2009) Yea, you COULD convert a lotus for $10k but the conversion wouldnt be terribly satisfying. In California, 20% of our electricity comes from zero CO2 renewables (sun, wind, geothermal), another 20% from zero CO2 hydro, and only 20.1% FCVs are the way of the future!

Caroline Reichert, an RWE spokeswoman, noted that the idea here is to ensure that "a car can be recharged in Italy in exactly the same way as in Denmark, Germany or France." The "normal plug" idea doesnt neccessarily work dude. That being said, even a car that derives its energy from coal power plants would be far more clean.
