The North American i-MiEV, when compared to its Japanese- and European-spec compatriots, features a slightly larger body to provide even more interior comfort for four adults, along with redesigned front and rear bumpers for enhanced protection in the event of a collision.

and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to start trial sales of the i-MiEV electric vehicle (EV) in Yamada Denki retail stores. MMC introduced the i-MiEV in Japan in July 2009, has started individual sales from this April and has sold about 3,000 units so far in Japan.

Nissan has installed 1,000 CHAdeMO quick chargers in Europe. Nissan says that the installation of the quick chargers significantly increases the uptake and usage of electric vehicles. The rate of installation of CHAdeMO quick chargers across Europe rose sharply in 2013, increasing access for Nissan LEAF customers.

At the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), Mitsubishi Motors North America President and CEO Shinichi Kurihara confirmed that the company is developing the i MiEV for sale in world markets, including the United States.
