Siemens Energy, FFI and GeoPura developing prototype ammonia cracker to produce hydrogen

Green Car Congress

—Steve Scrimshaw, VP at Siemens Energy UK & Ireland and a member of the UK Government’s Hydrogen Advisory Council. The traditional process of producing ammonia has used “grey” or “black” hydrogen from either natural gas or coal. Ammonia has a high hydrogen density and is readily transportable in bulk. million (US$1.8-million)

Calor introduces Neste BioLPG to the UK market; targeting fully renewable by 2040

Green Car Congress

BioLPG is Calor’s first renewable product offering that sees the company commit to reducing its carbon footprint and to become fully renewable by 2040. LPG, typically used for heating off the gas grid, transport and industrial applications, is already a flexible, low-carbon fuel compared to other fossil fuels.

Global CO2 emissions stalled for the third year in a row

Green Car Congress

The report provides updated results on the continuous monitoring of the three main greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), methane (CH 4 ) and nitrous oxide (N 2 O). CH 4 is mainly generated by agricultural activities, the production of coal and gas, as well as waste treatment and disposal. Other greenhouse gases keep creeping up.

UN report finds world needs incremental $1.9 trillion invested in green technologies to avert planetary catastrophe; global per capita cap on primary energy consumption of 70 GJ/yr may be required

Green Car Congress

In addition, global carbon dioxide emissions have been increasing. The past decade was the first in two centuries with increasing CO2 emissions intensities, owing to a “coal revival”, in contrast with the rapid conversion to natural gas in the 1990s.

Lean Software, Power Electronics, and the Return of Optical Storage

Cars That Think

It’s very similar to the infrastructure for electric cars because the idea, ultimately, for electric cars is that you also are revamping your grid to facilitate, whatchamacallit, intermittent renewable energy sources, like wind and solar, because having an electric car that runs off a coal-fired power plant is defeating the purpose, essentially.

Wind-to-Hydrogen Tech Goes to Sea

Cars That Think

Many countries have met their climate goals and are on track to be completely carbon neutral. Chemical plants on dedicated platforms then process part of the hydrogen, combining it with nitrogen to make ammonia, or with carbon dioxide to produce substitutes for fossil fuels. Wind and solar parks produce a large portion of their energy.

Emissions of Air Pollutants down in EU-27

Green Car Congress

The downward emission trend of three main pollutants which cause ground-level ozone continued in 2007: carbon monoxide (CO) fell by 57%, non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs) were down by 47% and nitrogen oxides (NO x ) have dropped 36%. EU-27 emissions of all four pollutants were lower in 2007 than in 2006.
