British Airways will invest in LanzaJet’s first commercial-scale Freedom Pines Fuels facility in Georgia and acquire cleaner burning sustainable aviation fuel from the plant. The plant in Georgia is due to begin construction this year. BA expects the fuel to be available to power a number of its flights by the end of 2022.

Using barium oxide nanoparticles, a team of researchers led by Georgia Tech has modified the surface of conventional anodes for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) to enable operation at lower temperatures (750 °C) with carbon-containing gases—e.g., gasified coal—by eliminating the coking problem.

Algenol is also working with PNNL, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Georgia Tech on development of higher-value green chemical production concepts.
