Henrik Fisker has designed some remarkable cars, among them Aston Martins, the BMW Z8, and of course the striking Fisker Karma range-extended electric luxury sedan. That vehicle, launched in 2012 by his namesake company, saw production of less than 3,000 units before the company collapsed in bankruptcy.

Together these retailer groups handle 17 brands in multiple locations across Montreal, including Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, BMW, Lexus, and now, Fisker. As the Karma is classified as a plug-in hybrid by Québec’s Drive Electric Program, buyers are eligible for an $8,000 rebate toward the purchase price.

Last year, we identified six plug-in hybrid vehicles on sale during 2013. This year, the list gains three new entries (from BMW, Cadillac, and Mitsubishi) and loses one (the Fisker Karma). Not all plug-in electric cars rely on battery power alone; some also have gasoline engines as backups, for longer range or more power.

CGA has a network of more than 200 retail stores carrying 40 brands including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus and Lamborghini. Fisker Automotive’s first car, the Fisker Karma, will make its Chinese debut at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2011. The company plans to sell 15,000 Karma vehicles per year globally.

Fisker Automotive has appointed its first group of 32 US retailers to market and service its luxury plug-in hybrid vehicles, beginning with the $87,900 Karma sedan later this year. Doolan led BMW NA and Volvo Cars NA to record sales in the 1990s and 2000s. The Karma is an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV).
