DriveNow, the carsharing joint venture between the BMW Group and Sixt SE ( earlier post ), has launched its flexible carsharing service in London. Initially, 210 BMW 1 Series and MINI Countryman models will be available for spontaneous hire. The standard one-off registration fee for London will be £29 ($45).

The projects, led by BMW, CNH Industrial, Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Penso Consulting, Westfield Sportscars and Williams Advanced Engineering, cover a wide range of new innovations. The test bed program forms part of the government’s Industrial Strategy commitment to develop world-class CAV testing infrastructure.

In a simultaneous—and video linked—unveil in New York, London and Beijing, BMW introduced the production version of its i3 battery-electric vehicle on Monday. The BMW i3 uses the BMW eDrive rear-wheel drive powertrain previously found on the BMW ActiveE (but the i3 is significantly lighter).

It almost seems as though London is against us mere motorists. The UK capital isn’t the most welcoming place for cars, with the lack of parking, Congestion Charge , congestion itself and the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). With some great transport links to take advantage of, having a car in London isn’t always necessary or practical.

The charging flap is located here at the front left of the vehicle, this opens which opens like so to reveal your Type 2 and your CCS connector. The CCS connector is your public rapid charge port. There’s a further little cubby hole here as well and some storage perhaps for your phone once it’s plugged in charging.
