China’s Nio has pulled the drapes off the Nio ET9 it hopes will steal sales from luxurious European brands Mercedes-Maybach, Bentley and, even, Rolls-Royce when it lands in China in 2025 priced from 800,000 yuan ($165,000). There’s also four-wheel steering as standard. 2025 Nio ET9 is intended to be a rival for German luxury cars.

British-Chinese sports car specialists Lotus is confident it will win the race to become the first mainstream sports car manufacturer to offer an all-electric product range. German giant Porsche is pushing hard on EVs, with the Taycan already on sale and the next Macan SUV set to go electric. 2027: Alfa Romeo, Buick. 2028: Chrysler.

Tesla helped former shareholder Toyota to bring back the Toyota RAV4 EV , an electric SUV and also aided its other OEM shareholder, Daimler (which also has since divested its Tesla shares), with the Smart ED and B-Class Electric. Volkswagen Group (which includes VW, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini and Bentley in the U.S.)

Audi has confirmed the Q6 E-Tron will tow up to 4,400 pounds, though it won’t offer a specific off-road model.

Volvo had been bought from Ford by big Chinese car maker Geely in 2010. Early next year the Polestar 3, a sleek, five-seat SUV, will join the 2. Within months it will be joined by another sporty SUV, the smaller Polestar 4. In 2017 Geely and Volvo announced Polestar would be spun off as a stand-alone brand focused on EVs.
