The new electricity contract is also in line with broader ambitions in China to reduce carbon emissions from industry and reduce the carbon footprint resulting from energy generation. Until recently, the Chengdu plant already sourced 70% of its electricity from renewable sources. The new contract addresses the last 30%.

Ford of Europe has put two giant wind turbines, each with a height of 150 meters, into service at the Ford Genk plant in Belgium. Installed by local energy company, Electrabel, each unit has an output of 2MW of power. Genk is not the only Ford of Europe plant to use electricity generated by wind turbines.
