Fuel economy is EPA rated at 24 mpg city, 28 highway, 25 combined. The rechargeable 17.8 kilowatt-hour battery has a combined 323 hp and 369 lb.-ft. By pressing a center console button the battery will use the engine to charge up while driving. Each of these are a first for Mazda and will be shared with future vehicles.

SDG&E tested the performance of two 2007-model Prius hybrids and then converted them into plug-in hybrids, using a Hymotion 5 kWh lithium-ion battery conversion kit. In the most recent study, the prototype battery was replaced with a production-model battery. The same pool of drivers was used during vehicle evaluation.

The Environmental Protection Agency rates fuel economy at 30 mpg highway and combined in hybrid mode, with an impressive 84 MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent) that measures the pure electric mode. mpg based on the dashboard computer. There are already spaces in New York City and Los Angeles, and there are now two in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I’m located. The newest Polestar Space just opened in Silicon Valley, at the Westfield Valley Fair, 2855 Stevens Creek Boulevard, San Jose. That’s pretty normal for a battery of this size in 2021.

Although the EPA has not as of this writing released the final fuel economy numbers for the US A3 e-tron, Filip Brabec, Director, Product Management, Audi of America, said that the figures will be around 83 to 86 MPGe combined (depending on the equipment level), with 35 to 39 mpg gasoline only and 16-17 miles of EV range.
