Thereby, we completely forego coal-based electricity and obtain our electrical energy from only renewable sources. Today, new plants in Europe are already planned with a CO2-neutral energy supply from the start. The decision also fits with our overall strategy. Where energy resources are concerned, lignite, hard coal and uranium figure principally in car production. For example, the iron demand is less because the share of steel is less, while the bauxite demand increases because of the higher light alloy share. In the US, 36% of electricity is generated using renewables, including wind, solar, and hydropower, as well as non-CO2-emitting nuclear power. An additional 35% is from natural gas, which emits the least CO2 of any fossil fuel.

With two Electric cars, at the time a Nissan Lean and Mitsubishi Outlander, we use a considerable amount of electricity but not much petrol, so already we were a reasonable way down the less CO2 road. For example the LEAF has a 24 KWh battery pack, and a full pack is good for around 100 miles. Battery Pack: PylonTech Battery Storage

April 10, 2009 10:09 am Link It amazes me that in the vast debate about electric cars world wide including here in Norway, no one ever mention the fact that the batteries in such cars need replacement in no more than five years. So imagine a million electric cars on US roads which all need to change these batteries in say 2015.

The benefit of a higher voltage connector has nothing to do with the speed at which the battery will charge it has to do with the conductor size. That being said, even a car that derives its energy from coal power plants would be far more clean. excluding coal power in china. lol BUT everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
