Prius PHV S. Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) has begun taking orders through Toyota dealers around Japan for the Prius PHV (plug-in hybrid). The Prius PHV will be sold by all Toyota, Toyopet, Toyota Corolla and Netz dealers in Japan; the sales target in Japan is 35,000 to 40,000 units per year. Battery type / capacity.

CSIRO engineers modified Toyota Prius hybrids by removing the OEM battery pack and installing a larger 6 kWh, 30 Ah NiMH battery pack (five times the capacity of the original 1.2 Ah pack) and a battery charger to allow the cars to plug into and charge with electricity from the grid or from on-site renewable energy sources.

Of the more than 3,000 consumers asked if they would consider buying a "grid-connected hybrid," the term used for plug-in hybrids in the survey, only 24 percent said that they would, according to the survey by Synovate Motoresearch. All that's needed, the survey discovered, is a dollop of education.

By John Coulter, CURRENT EV CMO In its new Prime, Toyota offers a RAV4 green version that employs a hybrid drivetrain relying on a gas engine and electric motors that draw power from a plug and regenerative braking. will be making all the batteries powering those vehicles. One has to wonder why it took them so long to do this!
