The EV tax credit rules changed again at the beginning of 2024, and stricter requirements on battery materials sourcing cut several previously qualified models from the list. Most GM models failed to make the cut, at least temporarily, and the automaker is offering $7,500 compensatory discounts to keep sales flowing.

But Cadillac delivered 9,000 Lyriqs in 2023, according to a media briefing by its global vice president John Roth. Production of Lyriq has been far behind initial targets, hamstrung mainly by an issue with assembling battery modules that has crimped GM’s EV plans. The luxury brand had delivered fewer than 2,400 in the first half.
