Global supply chain challenges continue to limit the production of new vehicles. It can be difficult to switch to green vehicles in this market, but not impossible as there are a record number of EV models available to order, and thousands of used EVs available across the country. .

Its efforts to incorporate alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs) into its fleet began in 2002 with an initial purchase of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), mainly the Toyota Prius and Ford Escape hybrid. In 2010, the city converted 15 Toyota Prius hybrids to plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

According to the survey of 4,760 European consumers, 16% see themselves as potential first movers to buy or lease an electric vehicle, while 53% say they might be willing to consider it, and 31% say they are not likely to consider purchasing or leasing an EV. It is clear that this innovation is a priority for car manufacturers.

Assuming the China government remains committed to EVs, BCG expects that these vehicles will represent 7% of new vehicle sales in 2020, supported by car buyers’ enthusiasm for the technology and the country’s high gasoline taxes. BCG sees fewer levers available for diesel-fueled ICEs, which are already optimized.
