The Peugeot 308 CC will be the first model in the Peugeot range to benefit from a new 1.6 liter HDi diesel engines that were launched earlier, Extreme Combustion Chamber System (ECCS) technology is much to the fore. This new engine will be available in the 308 CC in both Sport and SE trim levels and will be known as the HDi 112.

UK-based Electric Car Corporation Plc ( ECC ) has officially launched an all-electric version of the Citroën C1, the C1 ev’ie. The 4-seater electric car offers a range of 60-70 miles when fully charged and a top speed of around 60 mph. The C1 ev’ie is priced at £16,850 (US$25,000) and is available directly from ECC.

In vehicles with a conventional internal combustion engine, the a/c compressor is usually driven via a pulley and the V-belt but in electric vehicles, this mechanism is not available. Pierburg GmbH has developed an electric a/c compressor (eCC) that incorporates the supplier’s many years of experience in the field of mechatronic components.

A maximum torque of 500 N·m (369 lb-ft) is available, split 300 N·m (221 lb-ft) at the front from the HDi diesel engine and a maximum of 200 N·m (148 lb-ft) at the rear generated by the electric motor. The Electric Car Corporation Plc (ECC) today announced the launch of the UK’s first 4 seater, ‘all electric’ production car. ECC expects to produce around 500 C1 ev’ies over the next 12 months, rising to between 2,000 and 4,000 units in 2010, dependant upon demand and government support.

This could expand the range of materials available for use in batteries. Next steps would include testing other materials and mapping a pathway to commercial scale-up. It would be interesting to test other materials to see if they transform according to a similar hollowing mechanism.
