This past week in Santa Barbara, Mazda invited the automotive media to drive the CX-50 on the highway, twisty mountain roads and then off-road to experience soft sand, steep climbs and descents. Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) unveiled its all-new 2013 CX-5 compact SUV ( earlier post ) at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The CX-5 is the first Mazda fully to encompass the range of SKYACTIV technologies. With a targeted coefficient of drag of 0.33, the CX-5 aims to be the most aerodynamic compact SUV in the field.

Mazda Motor Corporation has begun production of the all-new Mazda CX-5 with its new-generation SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter liter diesel engine ( earlier post ) at its Ujina Plant near Mazda’s headquarters in Hiroshima. The debut of the CX-5 with a diesel engine marks a new push on clean diesels in Japan market for Mazda.

The updated Mazda6 ( earlier post ) introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show this past week offers two powertrain options in the US: an upgraded SKYACTIV-G 2.5 engine, first unveiled at the 2015 LA Auto Show for the 2016 CX-9. A new technology that is unique to Mazda in North America is cylinder deactivation in a four-cylinder engine.
