According to the 2024 Dealer Outlook Survey, 83 percent of respondents said the government was pushing the transition toward EVs too quickly and mucking up the auto market. About half of all dealerships also said they never bothered to register with the IRS to more easily facilitate EV tax credit exchanges.

With a new special cash offer, the 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6 can be significantly cheaper to buy than the upgraded Tesla Model 3 Highand. That’s to buy, not for a lease like previous deals. It’s essentially like receiving the full EV tax credit with a new purchase. The Performance version still qualifies for the full $7,500.

Hyundai and sibling brand Kia combined now rank second in EV sales after Tesla, meaning the two Korean brands are ahead of other established automakers like Ford and General Motors. The Ioniq 6 does not qualify for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, but neither do the two Model 3 Highland variants released so far.

Meanwhile, the similar Kia EV6 manages to take the same overall shape and use angles much better – the Kia is sexier. Yes, you can save money by not buying gas, and yes the Ioniq5 appears to be still eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit if it’s leased (it’s not eligible if you buy since it’s assembled in South Korea).
