The Atto 3 is charmingly if idiosyncratically styled, has a decent equipment list, a range between recharges as much as 400km in the real world, acceptable performance from its 150kW e-motor and a comfy if not especially dynamic ride/handling balance. If it wasn’t so stupidly expensive (around $100K, at least), I’d buy one.

The pure electric vehicles, for reserve, must carry heavy and expensive batteries—which add expense as well as weight—and must have access to high-powered recharging stations [ 1 ]. Furthermore, even the older version PHEV can recharge at a slow rate using local solar, wind, water-derived or other net zero CO 2 fuel.

V2G helps solve the major problem that demand for electricity is high during the day when everything from industrial plants to air conditioning is running full blast and then excess electricity is wasted at night. Several early models of passenger vehicles have enough energy stored in advanced batteries to power several homes for hours.

It was started by a chemist and government researcher named Wang Chuan-Fu in 1995 (same year as Yahoo) to make rechargeable batteries, which it learned to do very well. Within a few years, BYD’s batteries were cheaper and just as reliable as those made by industry giants ony and Sanyo.
