Samsung SDI has decided to use Hungary as its Li-ion battery production base in Europe. The new battery plant will be built in Goed, north of Budapest in a 330,000 m 2 site, using existing facilities previously used for display production.

LeydenJar , a Dutch developer of ultra-thin, pure silicon battery anodes, has secured the funding to build its first factory to produce silicon anode foil. LeydenJar’s innovative silicon anode foil allows batteries to store 70% more energy than the currently common graphite anode foil, while being extremely thin.

Researchers led by a team from Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) in Austria have shown that singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) forms in the cathode of a Li–O 2 battery during discharge and from the onset charge, and that it is responsible for a major fraction of side products that cause fast ageing in the battery.
