Audi’s latest e-fuels project is participation in a a pilot plant project in Dresden that produces diesel fuel from water, CO 2 and green electricity. Audi and project partners including Climeworks and sunfire ( earlier post ) opened the plant today. Audi is the exclusive partner in the automotive industry.

Audi is systematically building on its e-fuels strategy. Together with the partners Ineratec GmbH ( earlier post ) and Energiedienst Holding AG , the company has plans for a new pilot facility for the production of e-diesel in Laufenburg, in Canton Aargau (Switzerland). The company is now taking the next step in e-diesel production.

The Audi e-gas plant in the city of Werlte in Lower Saxony ( earlier post ) produces CO 2 neutral-fuel (synthetic methane from water, renewable electricity and CO 2 ); it now also contributes toward stabilizing the public power grid. The Audi A3 Sportback g‑tron with 81 kW (110 hp) of power is currently available from dealers.

Audi has developed two new e-fuels using different waste materials. The German manufacturer has buddied up with US-based fuels specialist Joule to produce e-ethanol and e-diesel. These combine salt or waste water with waste CO2, sunlight and special genetically modified microorganisms suspended in pipes.
