Local Electric Driving, No Range Anxiety. Volvo has been talking about going electric a lot lately. The company plans to do it with a mixture of all-electric vehicles, like the new XC40 Recharge, and plug-in hybrid versions of its SUVs and sedans. The XC90 Recharge is an example of the second group.

Since it was not a Level 2 charger, I knew it would not gain much juice overnight. I don’t understand why all chargers won’t accept credit cards just as they do at gas stations. He was a Swede and had driven all the way from Sweden without any charging issues. I duly plugged it into an exterior household outlet.

Electric Vehicle Service Equipment (EVSE) home wall units are priced at between about $1000 and $2500. All plug-in cars these days come with a 120-volt charge cord. This will actually be sufficient for many if not most Volt drivers, and quite a few LEAF drivers. Plus installation. Need it cost this much?

GM has been saying for a while now that they had picked their supplier for the LiIon battery in the Volt, but they weren’t prepared to announce who it was. I’m sure the stocks of all three will be volatile for a while. Ron Freund, president of the Electric Auto Assoc., It’s all in how they market them.
