And I’m one those million since they’re counting plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) as well as full battery electrics. I think that’s fair since on a good day my 3 ½-year-old Chevrolet Volt has a 61-mile all-electric range, roughly comparable to a used Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e. On top of that, I’m currently running at 80+% electric miles.

As of 1 October 2011, all vehicle manufacturers subject to the ZEV regulation are in compliance through model year 2010, and are carrying a positive ZEV credit balance—i.e., A vehicle manufacturer’s ZEV requirement is based on a percentage of all passenger cars and light-duty trucks up to 8,500 lbs, delivered for sale in California.

Effective January 1, 2022, electric vehicles with final assembly* (see definition at the end) in China would no longer qualify for IRC 30D (federal EV tax credit). China’s CATL is already one of the world’s leading suppliers of batteries for electric vehicles, including to OEMs such as Tesla, Volkswagen, and Geely.

Until then, we can always program the ESS to make what Lotus refers to as "more futuristic sounds for electric vehicles [that] can be created using sampled sounds and generated waveforms." Alternatively, may we suggest the sound of the neighborhood ice cream truck? We always seem to hear that one coming from a mile away.
