The Country Hills Shopping Plaza in Torrance, California will be the site of the first DC fast charging station to open in the state as part of Electrify America’s plan to install approximately 160 charging stations in California by June 2019. Within California, average distance between stations is projected to be 48 miles.

The 2018 national tour begins with its first stop at the California Association of School Transportation (CASTO) State Board of Directors 50 th Annual Meeting in San Diego, Calif. The range of the chargE can exceed 120 miles (193 km), while the powertrain can deliver up to 260 kW (about 349 peak horsepower).

SAE International is engaged with the Idaho National Lab and US Department of Energy (DOE) in bench-testing of WPT 3 (11 kW) levels in 2017, said Jesse Schneider, chair of the SAE J2954 task force, in his presentation at the SAE 2017 Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technologies Symposium last week in San Diego. Today, depending on the EV model, where it charges, and assuming it is a battery electric and not a hybrid vehicle, it may need to be driven anywhere from 8,400 to 13,500 miles , or controversially, significantly more to generate less GHG emissions than an ICE vehicle. The San Diego backlash over a mileage tax may be just the beginning.
