On Monday, July 19, a Fort Lauderdale federal jury released its verdict about a 2018 Tesla Model S crash, resulting in 18-year-old Barrett Riley’s death. On May 8, 2018, the 18-year-old drove his father’s Model S with his friends. James Riley filed a product liability suit against Tesla in a Florida federal court in 2020.

The US National Transportation Safety Board issued its preliminary report for the investigation of the fatal 7 May 2016, highway crash in Florida involving the Tesla Model S and Autopilot. A new Mobileye system—the EyeQ4—comes out in 2018. The Florida Highway Patrol and Tesla Motors are parties to the ongoing investigation.
