California Assemblymembers Marc Berman (D-Menlo Park) and Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego) introduced legislation to phase out the sale of new gas-powered small off-road engines (SORE), which are primarily used in lawn and garden equipment, including leaf blowers, lawn mowers, and other outdoor power equipment.

The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach released the draft of their proposed 2017 C lean Air Action Plan (CAAP) Update. A preliminary analysis estimates the cost of implementing the 2017 CAAP at $7 billion to $14 billion. Reduce GHGs from port‐related sources to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.

The study, led by CMU Professor Allen Robinson ( earlier post ), found a strongly nonlinear relationship between SOA formation and the ratio of non-methane organic gas to oxides of nitrogen (NO x ) (NMOG:NO x ). Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas and is 25 times more effective than carbon dioxide at trapping heat over a 100-year period. While it does occur naturally, major human-generated sources include landfills, refineries, oil and gas fields, natural gas infrastructure, dairies and wastewater treatment plants.
