The Swiss company Climeworks is building the world’s largest direct air capture (DAC) and storage facility for converting atmospheric CO 2 to rock in Iceland. Audi is partnering with the Zurich-based environmental start-up and promoting a future technology with the project. One quarter of that will be credited to Audi.

Audi is providing more details on the coming A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. The basic concept of power-to-gas (or e-Gas, as Audi calls it), is to “store” excess renewable electricity by producing hydrogen, which can then either be converted to methane; injected into the gas distribution grid directly; or used as a vehicle fuel.
