The discovery came when MIT researchers Byoungwoo Kang and Gerbrand Ceder found out how to get a common lithium compound to release and take up lithium ions in a matter of seconds.

If these companies are ultimately successful and can convince EV manufacturers to ditch lithuim ion, we could depend on the already robust recycling program.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. One wonders if the recent headway at MIT in building lithium ion cells using ?virus? takes time to build this new market and re-coup their investment.
