SwRI develops D-EGR demonstrator highlighting fuel-efficient, cost-effective engine; 10% and above fuel economy improvements

Green Car Congress

D-EGR is an engine and control concept that combines fuel reforming to produce hydrogen with high levels of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to achieve very high levels of thermal efficiency. PSA has been a member of the HEDGE consortium (now at HEDGE-III ) since 2004. In 2013, SwRI reported a 2.0-liter

BMW Outlines Intelligent Heat Management Applications for Reducing Fuel Consumption and CO2; New Thermoelectric Generator Unit Integrated with EGR

Green Car Congress

The remaining two-thirds are lost as waste heat going into the environment through the car’s exhaust emissions and through the radiator. Making some of that waste heat energy available through intelligent heat management offers significant potential for reducing fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions, BMW said.

Ricardo investigating potential for its split-cycle engine in large engine market

Green Car Congress

In a poster-session paper presented at CIMAC Congress 2016 in Finland, Ricardo described the use of this split-cycle concept in high- and medium-speed engines for power generation to achieve efficiencies of 60% from units of 1–30 MW mechanical output. The benefits of a split cycle have been demonstrated numerous times by different bodies.

SwRI simulations indicate Scuderi split-cycle engine consumes 25% less fuel than comparable conventional engine in Cavalier; 36% reduction with hybrid configuration

Green Car Congress

two split pairs) operating in a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier would consume 25% less fuel under the FTP (Federal Test Procedure) than the comparable standard gasoline engine, while matching power and torque. A naturally aspirated Scuderi Air-Hybrid configuration consumes 30-36% less fuel under similar drive conditions, the simulations found.
