Leclanché to supply battery storage system for two hybrid-powered ferries

Swiss shipbuilding company Shiptec AG, based in Lucerne, and Siemens Energy SRL, Milan, have selected Leclanché to supply energy storage systems for two new hybrid-powered vessels that will operate on Lake Geneva. The first of the nine ships ordered by Grimaldi is currently undergoing sea trials.

Leclanché will supply a state-of-the-art GNMC battery system (65 Ah cells) with a capacity of 10,028 kWh with a maximum voltage of 864 volts guaranteed for 10 years. In addition, it builds modules on its state-of-the-art automated assembly line, in Yverdon, Switzerland.

Leclanché receives orders for 22.6 MWh of battery systems with Stena Line and Brittany Ferries for next generation hybrid ferries

It plans to begin selling its cars in Norway, Denmark, Switzerland and the UK next year, with projected sales of 10,000 cars in 2009 and double that by 2011.
