Hybrid vehicle production for Toyota in Europe has doubled to reach a record 116,383 units produced at the company’s manufacturing facilities in France (Yaris Hybrid) and in the United Kingdom (Auris Hybrid and Auris Hybrid Touring Sports). Combined fuel consumption is 3.7 l/100 km (63.6 mpg US), with 85 g/km CO 2.

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will begin leasing approximately 200 plug-in versions of its third-generation Prius ( earlier post ) equipped with lithium-ion battery packs in Japan starting at the end of this year. TMC is also considering introducing plug-in hybrid vehicles in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.

The plug-in version of the third-generation Toyota Prius will be open to leasing at the end of this year in Japan. It brings the initial planned global deployment of early plug-ins to fleet customers to around 500 units. Action plans will be developed over the summer.

The all-electric range of the Prius Plug-In (23 km) will cover more than 50% of distances driven by single cars each day in Japan, according to Toyota. ZAP , maker of the 3 wheeled Xebra, "has passed Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) inspection, allowing it to be driven on roads in the United Kingdom," according to recent news reports. The first cars will utilize NiMH batteries, as do the Toyota test platform Plug-in Priuses at the University of California.
