The series-production model—the BMW XM—will begin production at the end of 2022 at BMW Group Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina; the US is the most important sales market for the new high-performance vehicle. The BMW XM will be available only as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and exclusively as an M model.

BMW has launched the second-generation plug-in hybrid X5 Sports Activity Vehicle, the X5 xDrive45e, in the US. The X5 xDrive45e is built at Plant Spartanburg, South Carolina, BMW Group’s largest global production plant. The combined power of the new PHEV drivetrain is 389 hp, a bump of 81 hp over the previous generation.

Volvo Cars revealed the new S60 mid-size premium sports sedan at the company’s new—and first—US manufacturing plant in Charleston, South Carolina. Volvo S60 Polestar PHEV. The new Charleston plant was officially inaugurated concurrent with the reveal of the S60. The new S60 is the first Volvo car made in the US.
