That car was the 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line, and I managed to find one in a Denver-area car graveyard recently. The system replaced the starter motor and alternator with a belt-driven motor/generator rig that generated five horsepower and 48 pound-feet. The Vue's platform outlived Saturn and still lives today, though.

The 8 kWh battery pack for the new 2011 Buick PHEV crossover vehicle is prepared for testing at the General Motors Tech Center in Warren, Michigan. General Motors will debut its two-mode plug-in hybrid technology—originally intended to appear first in a Saturn VUE, prior to that brand’s sale—in a new Buick crossover vehicle in 2011.

The Saturn version of the two-mode plug-in hybrid at the Milford Proving Grounds. As part of the culling, GM has the option to re-badge vehicles from the non-core brands, such as the Pontiac G8, Opel Insignia and Saturn Vue. With CAFE’s renewed emphasis on fuel economy, from 26 mpg in 2010 to 35.5 by Bill Cooke.

General Motors. Non-core brand sales declined when compared with June as Pontiac dipped 7%; Saturn was down 21%, and HUMMER and Saab declined 26%. As underscored last month when GM announced it would build a plug-in hybrid version of its Saturn Vue, the logic of electric propulsion is compelling. Electric motors are clean, lightweight, maintenance-free and powerful. As it stands now, Toyota can incrementally improve their gasoline-only hybrids, staying out front in the mpg wars.

Feet, pedals and electric motors only will make for a much more pleasant and greener event. The plug-in Priuses are almost doubling the fuel efficiency of Google standard Prius fleet, getting 74 MPG rather than 41 MPG. Back after Labor Day. GM got serious about its hybrid game for the 2007 model year, when the Saturn Vue Green Line hit showrooms. Fuel economy for this car was rated at 26 mpg city, 34 highway ; the Ecotec-only version with 6-speed automatic (there was also an available 4-speed automatic) got 22 mpg city, 33 highway.
