By replacing the traditional mechanical driveline with an electric motor integrated directly into the vehicle’s differential housing, the e-Axle provides greater design flexibility for battery placement and truck body attachment. The vehicle can be used for box trucks, maintenance trucks, shuttle buses, and more.

With expected all-electric 80-mile range using Panasonic 18650 Li-ion batteries, the battery pack is expected to cover the vast majority of miles driven in a day by fleet owners of locally driven trucks. The four-wheel drive system uses dual direct-drive traction motors, one on the front axle, the other on the rear.

4-cylinder engine; charging capability remains the same, as does the electric range. The original 2015 E-GEN Drive was propelled by a 200 kW Sumo electric motor/generator (from tm4 Electrodynamic Systems) with a 60 kWh pack (45 kWh usable) built with Panasonic 18650 Li-ion cells. The smaller engine will improve fuel economy, however.

Arc has built the first models of its much-anticipated Arc Sport 500hp electric wake boat, and we got a chance to take it for a quick demo in Long Beach, CA and holy heck, this thing rips. And, like in electric cars, an electric motor has high torque at zero rpm, which means it has… A LOT OF GET-UP-AND-GO.

In its second generation, the 2024 Toyota Mirai makes electricity onboard to drive its electric motor. Toyota (in partnership with Peterbilt and others), Hyundai and Nikola are the early leaders in hydrogen being a fuel source for over-the-road trucks, highlighted by what they are doing at the Port of Long Beach and elsewhere in California.

We’re seeing a series of electrical architectures, with one group around smaller equipment at 48 volts, and a medium range—200 to 500 volts—in large equipment and medium-duty trucks. Also, it’s a maintenance issue. For those vehicles, maintenance is key. But the problem is going to come in 2035 when they exhaust that 40%.

Despite the lack of battery and wheelbase options, the US eSprinter does have two powertrain options, with either a 100kW or 150kW motor (with 295 lb.-ft Driving feel We drove in “comfort” mode, which is Mercedes’ name for the mode that unlocks the full 150kW motor power. ft of torque). The car said we got 2.0 miles per kWh.
