Better Place is building stations in San Francisco, Hawaii, Israel, and Denmark to swap out 1,000 pound batteries in a car wash type set up. Several global indicators on the supply of oil and the known carbon pollution environmental damages its caused all lead us to find cleaner ways of transportation. We have oil!

The rest of Hawaii’s electricity is generated by burning oil. Yes, tankers of dirty, expensive oil are brought in and boatloads of money are shipped back to the oil companies. Oil burning is one of the single biggest sources of pollution coming from the whole state. Another 5% comes from wind and 5% from hydro.

When the batteries reach a predetermined state of discharge, the Capstone C30 microturbine fires up and recharges the batteries on the fly to extend the driving range up to 500 miles. No oil or other lubricants are needed, so maintenance is extremely low and the need to dispose of hazardous materials is eliminated. DOE and BIRD Grants.

Renault and Better Place also announced an expansion of their current agreement by committing to a volume of at least 100,000 electric cars in Israel and Denmark by 2016. . The first will be the electric version of Fluence ( earlier post ) which will initially be available in Israel and Europe. Characteristic components of an EV.
