There are 6 big manufacturers in the current Indian electric bus market such as Tata Motors, Olectra-BYD, Foton PMI, JBM Solaris and VECV. It has the benefit that they don’t emit tailpipe emissions and have very low fuel-production emissions being environmentally friendly. It has attracted global investors as well.

The year of 2011 promises to be one of the most exciting in the history of motoring as electric vehicle services provider Better Place and car manufacturer Renault plan to begin production of tens of thousands of electric vehicles. It is expected however, that as production expands the cost of the battery will decrease.

EV Engineering in Australia ( earlier post ) recently unofficially broke the distance record for a production electric car, achieving 1,886 (1,172 miles) kilometers of driving over a 24-hour period. The powertrain of the electric Commodore, including the motor, single speed gearbox and differential packaged between the rear wheels.

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Renault unveiled four Lithium-ion battery electric concept vehicles that provide a preview of Renault’s range of production electric vehicles to be released from 2011 on: Twizy ZE Concept (city car); Zoe ZE Concept (compact car); Fluence ZE Concept (5 passenger sedan); and Kangoo ZE Concept (electric van).

Virtually all the world’s bigmotor manufacturers are building prototypes using lithium-ion batteries butso far they have reached production only in a few low-volume models. The electric Mini is unlikely to go into production in its present form. Witha 60-mile range, most felt the need to recharge after 30 miles or so.

In addition to a recent electric car deal with NISSAN Motors ( NSANY ), Portland General Electric, the Oregon state governor and GE have also announced a joint venture with Mitsubishi Motors ( MMTOF.PK ) to develop and sell the Miev electric car with 85 mile range by 2011. By 2011 look for a larger THINK Ox. a subsidiary of Ener1 Inc.
