The two-door hatchback comes powered by a 118-hp electric motor for a 149-mile range – not amazing but good enough for most trips and daily use.

In other words, if for some reason the idea of a PHEV Wrangler bothers you, relax. Now you can run it solely on electric power for up to 21 miles and plug it in to charge. So while other SUVs might get dinged for these things, we chalk it up to part of the experience. Yes, you get a plug-in hybrid setup. They’re supposed to be.

The idea is that when your car needs more energy, you can drive your car into a station and, like an automated car wash, your depleted battery is replaced robotically by one that has a full charge. BYD , for examples, says their 60 mile range-extended vehicle can add 30 miles of range in ten minutes.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles. Ive found it facinating how car commercials changed the main MPG number they promoted before gas went over $4 a gallon as city miles. Thats right.
