The BMW Brilliance plug-in hybrid concept. have presented a concept plug-in hybrid sedan based on the long wheelbase version of the BMW 5 Series Sedan. The parallel hybrid system consists of a 160 kW (215 hp) BMW TwinPower Turbo engine and an electrical motor with a maximum output of 70 kW. Click to enlarge.

The majority of the vehicles are electric, with a small number being plug-in gasoline-electric hybrids. A new hydrogen station is planned for Coventry University. The consortium consists of Nissan, Smith Electric Vehicles in partnership with LTI, AVID Vehicles, Liberty Electric Cars, Newcastle University and One North East.

The University of California, Davis and the BMW Group released the largest publicly available study of electric-car users yet conducted, including more than 120 families who drove the fully electric MINI E automobile more than 1 million miles in California, New York and New Jersey from June 2009 to June 2010.

BMW of North America and the University of California at Davis (UC Davis) are partnering on a year-long field study to determine the viability of electric vehicles. MINI E customers, based primarily in Los Angeles with a few in the New York City-area, will participate in the study.

Both ministers drove a MINI E electric car at the event as they announced plans to support motorists by providing help worth £2000-£5000 towards buying their first electric or plug-in hybrid car when they hit the showrooms. US field trials of the MINI E are already under way for two months, with BMW gathering data from the 450 MINI E drivers.
