The US Department of Energy (DOE) has selected 27 projects for more than $37 million in funding to accelerate the technological and commercial readiness of emerging marine and hydrokinetic (MHK) technologies, which seek to generate renewable electricity from oceans and free-flowing rivers and streams. I went and spoke to their City Council and said “For $50,000 a house I’ll put in solar AND battery systems and take you off the grid. If you’re going to do it, take the homes off the grid. That’s pretty mean to the rest of the grid. Though you’re still going to have to deal with the utility to hook you up to the grid.
