The 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show opens to the public today with a glittering display of green cars taking pride of place. The show, based at the Los Angeles Convention Center will host more than 30 significant world and North American debuts and feature more than 900 vehicles from sports cars and sedans to crossovers and minivans.

According to data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association, 10,481 units of the Honda Insight were sold marking the continuation of growing success for Honda on home turf. Last year, the Honda Fit was the best selling car among new vehicle registrations for the calendar and fiscal year.

With the Toyota Prius still providing stiff competition, it appears that Honda may be willing to undercut the price of its own Insight Hybrid car as it bids to land a larger share of the green car market.

Hybrid car sales may have slumped as the recession continues to take its toll on the car industry, but Ford has made itself the exception that proves the rule. Honda, sold 29,958 units, which is an eight per cent increase compared to 2008, largely due to the introduction of the Honda Insight Hybrid.
