Following its investigation into the crash, the NTSB asked 17 automakers, including BMW, Ford, GM, Honda, and VW, to equip new vehicles with speed-assistance features. The crash was caused by a driver traveling 103 mph in a 2018 Dodge Challenger.

When compared to the average non-turbo engine among 2016-2018 models, overall, Lexus makes the most reliable turbo powertrain, followed by Honda and Porsche. While the Chrysler 300 improves to “Average,” the Pacifica minivan falls to “Below-Average.” Other GM brands saw their place in the rankings fall from last year.

The Trends report has been published annually since 1975 and covers all passenger cars, sport utility vehicles, minivans, and all but the largest pickup trucks and vans. Of the major manufacturers (production above 100,000 vehicles), Nissan had the highest concentration of AFV production at 2.0%, followed by GM at 1.2%.

GM is bringing back the Hummer brand as an EV within the GMC brand. GM, shifting focus to pure EVs, built the last Volt on February 19, 2019. GM’s signature EV now is the Chevrolet Bolt EV , another new name, which arrived as a 2017 model and promptly won Motor Trend ’s Car of the Year award. I’m hoping for the latter.
