Kandjoze of Namibia’s National Planning Commission agreed to establish a hydrogen partnership between Germany and Namibia and signed a Joint Communiqué of Intent (JCoI). I am proud that Germany is the first country to officially form a hydrogen partnership with Namibia. This is almost twice as much as Germany has to offer.

The two promotional initiatives are part of the German federal government’s second economic stimulus package. The technology optimises the CO 2 balance of the vans with certified green electricity, or even surplus wind energy (“Wind-to-Vehicle/W2V”).

Although EVSE sales have been driven by federal stimulus dollars in 2011–2012, these projects are winding down, so sales will shift to non-publicly funded units. Five European countries will be in the top 10 countries globally in terms of EVSE sales: Germany; France; the United. Kingdom; the Netherlands; and Italy.

For 15 years, my team at the University of Göttingen, in Germany, has been collaborating with colleagues at the University of Freiburg and beyond to reinvent the cochlear implant in a strikingly counterintuitive way: using light. The deaf animals responded to this light stimulation just as they had to the auditory stimulus.
