Although much cheaper than putting gasoline into a ICE car, charging an EV is not necessarily free. With the rise of EVs, there’s a shift toward kWh-based pricing , which aligns more closely with the conventional model of gasoline refueling. In Iowa , the kWh tax has already been in effect since July 1, 2023.

Laredo Bus Facility Solar Canopies: Provide shade structures with integrated, grid tied photovoltaic cells to be erected on the bus storage lot at the Laredo Bus Maintenance Facility. It would also fund stationary fuel cells to provide primary and emergency back-up power for the bus maintenance and storage facilities.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) will recruit 500 people from Wright and Hennepin counties to take part in research to test technology that could someday be used to collect a mileage-based user fee (MBUF) in lieu of a gasoline tax. These funding sources support construction and maintenance of the highway system.

In Department of Energy fuel economy tests, in short-trip city driving, a conventional gasoline car’s gas mileage is about 12 percent lower at 20 degrees Fahrenheit than it would be at 77 degrees Fahrenheit and can drop as much as 22 percent for very short trips of around 3 to 4 miles. Charging is much cheaper than gas.
