The 2010 Ford Transit Connect. Ford is introducing the North American version of the 2010 Transit Connect light commercial vehicle at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show this week. Ford is collaborating with Smith Electric Vehicles to bring the electric Transit Connect to market in North America in 2010.

The new Mondeo Hybrid is Ford’s first full hybrid car in Europe. To support the rollout, Ford will rapidly expand the availability of EcoBoost gasoline engine technology, low CO 2 ECOnetic Technologies, vehicle electrification and driver assistance features. The Ford C-MAX Energi is Ford’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

Ford Motor Company and Smith Electric Vehicles US (SEV US) have mutually agreed to terminate the development project of an electric car-derived van based on Transit Connect. Azure Dynamics has selected Johnson Controls-Saft as the supplier for lithium-ion battery cells and battery packs for the Transit Connect BEV.

Ford detailed seven of the 13 new global electrified vehicles it plans to introduce in the next five years, including hybrid versions of the iconic F-150 pickup and Mustang in the US, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Transit Custom van in Europe and a fully electric SUV with an expected range of at least 300 miles (483 km) for customers globally.

Ford Motor Company is extending its global electric vehicles plan to Europe with five full electric or hybrid vehicles across its C, CD and light commercial vehicle ranges to be introduced in that market by 2013. Ford is aiming to make the Transit Connect Electric available for European customers from 2011.
