Last week True Zero, the retail brand of hydrogen stations developed, owned, and operated by FirstElement Fuel, was selected by the California Energy Commission to build 12 new hydrogen stations in the Commission’s latest round of grant awards to help build out California’s retail hydrogen network. —Joel Ewanick, CEO of True Zero.

True Zero reported that fuel cell electric vehicles in California have used 250,000 kilograms (250 metric tons) of clean hydrogen—and driven 17 million miles—supplied by 18 retail stations owned and operated by the company. Two-thirds of this hydrogen is derived from fossil fuels, such as natural gas.

Honda Drops Clarity FCEV; BMW & Land Rover Test Prototypes. Just during the past week Honda, one of the pioneers and stalwarts of the fuel cell market, announced it is discontinuing the low-volume Clarity, which is only sold in California. In the first five months of the year, Honda had only leased less than a thousand cars.
