has delivered the first pilot version of its plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) F-150 pickup truck to Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), in association with Dow Kokam, the lithium-ion battery system supplier for the PHEV F-150. The PHEV F-150 is powered by Quantum’s “F-Drive” parallel plug-in-hybrid electric drive system.

And I’m one those million since they’re counting plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) as well as full battery electrics. I think that’s fair since on a good day my 3 ½-year-old Chevrolet Volt has a 61-mile all-electric range, roughly comparable to a used Nissan Leaf or Fiat 500e. On top of that, I’m currently running at 80+% electric miles.

A Florida car dealer set a mission to drive 1,100 miles in a Toyota Prius, which had been modified as a plug-in hybrid, while burning as little petrol as possible. The trip was sponsored by Florida Toyota dealer Earl Stewart to show the need for clean emission vehicles. Why set yourself a mechanical challenge of course.

electric miles at approximately 22MPG on the average. Tomorrow, with another two trial runs of at least 10 electric miles each, it seems quite certain that the "Spirit" could have well over 51 electric miles. It's all part of the PHEV EVxperience! We will see! We will see!
