These fuel cell vehicles will be leased to key public and private fleet users in the capital. Battery electric vehicles are a great technology but like the fax machine they are only temporary and there is a great deal of consumer resistance towards them for all manner of reasons, including range and the time it takes to recharge them.

On the other hand, drivers of other vehicles waste considerable time making special trips to refuel their internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles at the liquid fuel station or their battery electric vehicle (BEV) at the rapid recharging station. Slow Level 1 charging [ 11 ] should be used to recharge PHEVLER batteries whenever possible.

The pure electric vehicles, for reserve, must carry heavy and expensive batteries—which add expense as well as weight—and must have access to high-powered recharging stations [ 1 ]. Furthermore, even the older version PHEV can recharge at a slow rate using local solar, wind, water-derived or other net zero CO 2 fuel.

These—including, for example, an electric version of the T2, the iconic VW van of the late 1960s and 1970s—were mostly test cars and prototype cars, but also small fleets for special purposes. The power electronics converts the direct current (DC) stored in the battery to alternating current (AC).

An EV like this would need to store 6KWHrs of power in the batteries if we assume the system is 100% efficient. If we wanted to recharge this from 110V domestic service we would need to pull 10,800,000/110 = 96,000 amps. A vehicle with a 200 mile range like the Tesla Roadster would easily be able to do the trip with one recharge.

It was started by a chemist and government researcher named Wang Chuan-Fu in 1995 (same year as Yahoo) to make rechargeable batteries, which it learned to do very well. The first buyers will be fleet users, which will build central fast-charging facilities. A chemist and government researcher, Wang raised some $300,000 from relatives, rented about 2,000 square meters of space, and set out to manufacture rechargeable batteries to compete with imports from Sony and Sanyo.
