New York City is adding 70 electric vehicles to its fleet: 50 new Chevrolet Volts, 10 fully electric Ford Transit Connect cargo vans, and 10 new fully electric Navistar E-star utility trucks. Only 30% of New Yorkers are knowledgeable about the specific benefits and limitations of electric vehicles.

There are now more than 29,000 electric vehicles registered in New York City and Westchester, including 1,262 added in February, the most recent month for which data are available, according to Con Edison, the electricity, gas and steam utility for New York CIty and Westchester County, NY.

XL recently completed a successful pilot deployment of school buses with Careful Bus Company in New York City outfitted with the XL hybrid system. In addition to the Careful Bus deployment, XL provides hybrid electric (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicle systems to municipal fleets across the US.

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) has selected the Nissan NV200 as the exclusive taxi of New York City for a decade, beginning in late 2013. The City now will enter into final negotiations with Nissan to make the NV200 the first taxicab specially built for use in New York City.

Cuomo announced a $19-million New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program to encourage the purchase of battery-electric commercial trucks as well as other energy-efficient transportation, including hybrid and CNG (compressed natural gas) trucks. This incentive also includes repowering a diesel truck with CNG.

Revel is expanding its public fast-charging network to more than 300 plugs across New York within the next year.
