The companies will assess how EV batteries perform in their “second lives,” including stationary applications in homes, neighborhoods and commercial buildings.

The research, led by Associate Professor Brian Stone, shows that expected levels of CO 2 emissions from cars and trucks in 2050 could be reduced back to close to 2000 levels if the full vehicle fleet was converted to hybrid electric vehicles—a greater reduction in CO 2 emissions than achieved by two smart growth scenario modelled in the study.

Wireless charging is nothing new— Charged has covered wireless EV charging since at least 2011—but it may be that its true value is only coming into focus now, as more and more commercial and transit fleets are electrifying. I’ve yet to see a single plug-in charger company talk about their grid-to-battery efficiency. John Holland: Yes.
