Novus is working with an Oregon lender, Old West Federal Credit Union, to finance the project. The biorefinery will be built on land owned by the Port of Morrow, one of the largest ports in Oregon. USDA has financed projects in Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina and Oregon.

According to the GEA this was due to 4 new geothermal power projects moving to completion, but also reflects difficulty obtaining final permits and difficulty obtaining financing. Financing is expensive and scarce, and available lenders are requiring much more work be done before they will finance projects. California.

USDA’s loan commitment to Cool Planet is being financed from the remainder of the Biorefinery Assistance Program funds authorized in the 2008 Farm Bill.
