As part of the FY 2012 Phase I Release 3 SBIR/STTR Award program, the US Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded Michigan-based XG Sciences, a manufacturer of graphene nanoplatelets ( earlier post ), a contract to develop low-cost, high-energy Si/graphene anodes for Li-ion batteries for use in extended range electric vehicle applications.

The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. (In In this paper PHEV refers solely to the long-range PHEV of 60 miles (100 km) electric-only range.) It is much more than that.

The US Department of Energy will award up to $12 million of Federal funding under a new funding opportunity ( DE-FOA-0000667 ) to develop wireless chargers for Grid-connected Electric Drive Vehicles (GCEDVs). In the long term, dynamic wireless charging could deliver energy to moving vehicles en route to their destinations.

All-Electric Range of PHEV is the range in charge depleting mode. It also controls energy flow to and fro the battery.

The Cadillac Converj extended-range electric vehicle Concept uses the Voltec platform. Two-Mode Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). GM is developing a fifth generation system for 2015 which will have substantially longer range and a much smaller fuel cell stack than the generation four system. Build better products.
