After each expansion cycle the heat exchange fluid is recovered from the exhaust and reheated to ambient temperature via a heat exchanger similar to a conventional radiator. Using the Dearman Engine allows efficient use of the waste heat, leading not only to greater economy, but also offering the potential for improved air quality.

Each cylinder has a central direct injector with cooled EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) as an integral part of the cylinder heads. Technical features of the engine include a chain-driven, double overhead camshaft with four valves per cylinder. Each valve is driven by finger followers.

With fuel economy as low as 60 mpg US (3.94 A variable flow oil pump and switchable piston cooling jets cut parasitic losses still further and therefore reduce fuel consumption and emissions. A cam phaser on the exhaust side allows the catalysts to reach operating temperature even more quickly, further reducing emissions.
